I’m moving right along, and am almost nearing the 2nd trimester! *yay* I can definitely feel a difference. I’m not as tired and run down as I’ve felt some days in the past weeks.
Just a little info for me to read back on later if need be! *smile*
13 Weeks Pregnant: An Overview
You are 13 weeks pregnant — this is the last week of your first trimester! The first trimester ends when the fetus is about 12 weeks old, which is about 14 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period.
When you are 13 weeks pregnant, you may find yourself starting to actually look pregnant — you may have a “bump.” Also, your morning sickness and moodiness may finally be getting better.
Your baby is now 2.6 to 3.1 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at 0.5 to 0.7 ounces.
Your Baby’s Development at Week 13 of Pregnancy
At 13 weeks pregnant, your baby can now probably flex its arms and kick its legs. He or she may also be able to put a thumb in his or her mouth, although the sucking muscles are not yet completely developed.
Other fetal development that occurs when you are 13 weeks pregnant typically includes the following:
* The appearance of fingernails
* The beginnings of fingerprints and footprints
* The appearance of tooth buds for all 20 baby teeth
* The start of vocal cord formation
* The movement of eyes (closer together) and the ears (to a normal position)
* The appearance of visible ribs
* The development of the trachea, lungs, stomach, liver, pancreas, and intestines into their final functioning form.
Changes in Your Body When You’re 13 Weeks Pregnant
During week 13 of pregnancy, many of your early pregnancy symptoms may have subsided or will soon. Anxiety may also decrease because the risk of miscarriage is significantly less after the twelfth week of pregnancy.
You may feel some abdominal pain during week 13 of pregnancy as the ligaments that hold up your uterus stretch to accommodate it as it grows. This is called “round ligament pain.”
Remember to rest if you are feeling tired; your body is still adjusting to the pregnancy.
