A new after school activity: Science Lab!

My daughter Jacey is 7 and loves to learn & do new things! She almost always approaches things cautiously and can be shy at times, too. Recently I signed her up for a new after school activity! Science Lab! I was looking over our city’s website and all of the things that were available for kids and came across this class. I actually came across a lot of fun classes that I knew my girls would love. Science Lab was starting soon and it was for kids her age, so I asked Jacey about it. She was very excited and without hesitation said “YES“!

I went ahead and got her signed up! They meet once a week on Tuesdays. Yesterday was her 2nd class. The first class last week they learned about ants and worms, and even brought a meal worm home (gross). I don’t like things like that but Jacey sure does. She took that worm out and played with it and watched it crawl. She was just having the best time until somehow it got lost outside. Oops!

This week they took 2 liter bottles and made a “tornado”. They attached the bottles together and shook them up and the water in the top bottle would swirl around. It was pretty cool. They also took a regular soda bottle, like a 16-20 ounce and made a sort of “volcano”. Basically they hooked a straw up to it and got it to spew water out of the top.

She likes doing little experiments like that and is just having the best time in that class! I’m glad I signed her up for it. I think it’s important for kids to have fun things to do and learn new things. I don’t believe that kids should have so many activities that they get burned out, but it’s good for them to have things that they like to do other than school. Every child is different of course, and every parent knows their child best. 🙂

So this class goes on weekly until the middle of next month. I’ll update my blog with all of the exciting things they do. 😉
