We have all heard of Pinterest. It’s a household name! I love searching for new ideas and finding inspiration there. It can turn into a time consuming thing though, because it’s just so fun!
Anyway, I recently came across a recipe to make your own laundry detergent. I had to give this a try! I mean, I had almost everything to make it….already in my house!
The recipe was here.
So I got all of my ingredients together and went to work. I first tried a method to easily crumble the soap. I used ZOTE soap. I microwaved it. It took quite awhile to do, and when I crumbled it, the pieces still didn’t seem to be small enough. The other bar I shredded with my cheese grater. Maybe it was just me, but I didn’t like the pieces as big as they were in the mixture. So, I got my food processor out and ran the whole mixture through it. Perfect!
Pink Zote Laundry Soap
The ZOTE bar–microwaved!
It was easy to do, but it can get a little “dusty” so be careful not to breathe it in. In the end, it made quite a bit!
I like the pink running through it.
I’ve washed a couple of loads with it so far, and it seems to do the trick. I will say though, that I haven’t washed anything really super dirty. I still like to use fabric softener to make my clothes soft and smell good. You could also use a scent booster like Downy Unstoppables or Purex Crystals [for scent only.]
Note: This soap does not really suds up, but suds do not equal clean. It still cleans. Give it a try and let me know what you think. This batch, I hear lasts from 9 months to a year…..depending on how much washing you do, and will cost you from $20-$25 for the ingredients depending on where you get the ingredients and if you use coupons. Some of the ingredients you might already have in your house. 😀
I’ll continue to use it and then decide for sure if it’s going to do the trick for our family. 😉
