Lamentations 2:22-23
When you see a homeless person, or a person that is in need, do you pass them by? I know you have all seen the person on the corner with a sign that asks for spare change, or whatever you can spare.
I know that I do. In fact today as the girls and I were leaving Walmart, there was a man by the entrance to the main road-just sitting on the ground with several backpacks. It looked as if he were traveling, maybe. He was holding a sign that said “Spare Change”. When I saw him, it was too late to stop. I made it to the red light, grabbed my purse and was digging through it. The light turned green, I went a little further to the next light and then turned around. I was going to give this man a few dollars…and I didn’t care if I had to go all of the way back, make a U turn or whatever.
I pulled up to the curb and he saw me and came over. I handed him what I had stuffed in my purse, (which was only $6.00)…and said “God Bless You”. He was so appreciative! He said “God Bless you, too”…and as he shook my hand he said “Thank you for showing concern for me”. It melted my heart, honestly! He was so thankful, and so friendly!
A lot of people will not stop, they will just ignore the person on the corner. I know that everyone may not have cash to give, but I think even if you had a bottle of water to spare, the person would be thankful. Every time I have stopped and given someone money, they have always returned a big smile and a thank you. I’ve heard people say….”How do you know they won’t just go and buy liquor with that money?” I don’t know, and it’s not for me to concern myself with, frankly. We are not to make assumptions, we are to help and love one another. These people appear to need help, and if I can help them, then I will.
Remember these Bible Verses. Matthew 25:33-40.
