Who is Johnny Appleseed?
John Chapman a.k.a Johnny Appleseed was a pioneer apple farmer who established apple orchards throughout the midwest areas. {short version} 😉
Today in school, my youngest (she is in 1st grade), is learning all about Johnny Appleseed. So in celebration of Johnny Appleseed day, I made a delicious apple crisp (in the crock pot no less!) Apple recipes are a favorite of mine, and they are so perfect for fall!
Here is the super easy recipe!
6 apples {Braeburn or Granny Smith} I used Braeburn. Core and slice {peel, if you like}
1/2 Cup of Quick Oats
1/3 Cup of packed Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup of All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup of Chilled Butter {diced}
1/2 Cup of Chopped Pecans
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 Cup of toffee bits (I didn’t have any on hand, so I omitted this ingredient}
-Grease up your slow cooker or use non stick spray, add the apples and then sprinkle the cinnamon on top of the apples.
-Combine the remaining ingredients until it is crumbly {except for the nuts and toffee bits}
-Sprinkle over the apples and then top with the nuts and toffee bits
-Cook on low for about 4 to 6 hours
It is SO GOOD! Perfect with vanilla bean ice cream on the side. YUM! 🙂
Hungry, yet? 😉
