Lamentations 2:22-23
You don’t have many options when you’re a parent – the space within your home dwindles day by day, and there’s nothing that you can do about it. With the introduction of any new person, whether big or small, comes the introduction of their belongings creeping their way around the house. If it’s a child, the belongings just grow and grow and eventually you won’t be able to turn your head without seeing, smelling, hearing or tripping up over something of theirs.

Have you ever been over to a fellow parent’s house and wondered how they keep everything so … manageable? If so, keep reading.
Invest In Storage
If you look around the houses of these rare, magical people, you’ll often find that they have storage by the bundle. It doesn’t have to be pretty, and it certainly doesn’t have to be expensive. A good example of something that you can add to and make your own in regards to the colour scheme is the Trofast storage from IKEA. It’s pretty much a staple in any busy household with kids, and is a great place to store toys, games and any other bits and bobs that they may have lying around. If you haven’t already begun, start implementing a tidying routine with your children straight after they have finished playing with whatever they’ve got out; if you keep on top of the mess before it’s there, then you won’t have any problems.
Get Creative with Sleeping Arrangements
The more room you have, the more space you have to fill right back up again – or not, if you’re going to invest in storage and keep routine. Instead of spreading out, move it up; bunkbeds are so handy at taking two things that would otherwise be using up a lot of space and managing it into one practical solution. If your children don’t share a room, that’s fine – they’re still a fantastic option for storing bigger objects such as teddies on the top, plus they’re obviously a great addition should they have any friends stay over. You’ve got a win-win either way!
Declutter
There are things in your house that your child will claim to love, but won’t even notice if you threw out. This doesn’t mean that you have a right to throw out a comfort object of theirs; keep to one side the things that you know they truly do love. But any old games that they haven’t played with in years, toys that they have well grown out of and little knick knacks that they haven’t given thought for ages is fair game to be donated to a local charity shop or shelter – or even sold on an auction site like eBay. There are so many great hacks online for how to effectively declutter and organise your child’s room that you’ll be hard-pressed to not get the job done; it involves a lot of leading by example, a few games and a touch of positivity to see you guys through to the end.
