When we start to age, it is easy to try and avoid the talk of dying or planning our own send off. However, when it comes to end of life planning, sometimes getting the job done as soon as you can is the best thing because it takes pressure off both you and your family once you have passed.

Today we want to talk about planning your own funeral, and how you can make the day as special as can be for the ones you love, to say goodbye to you in the best possible way.

Set a budget

Before planning your final send off into the next life, it is important to understand the costs of a funeral. Set a budget now and start to consider what you can feasibly afford to do for the ceremony. There are a lot of different ways you can make your final goodbye special; so start looking at providers and choose affordable ones that will be able to provide you with something great.

Source a coffin

Sourcing a coffin for your funeral is one of the most surreal tasks on your list. When looking for your own coffin, consider the price and also consider whether you want a wooden one or perhaps a biodegradable coffin instead. Many people these days care a lot about the environment and a biodegradable coffin can give back to the earth and you can even choose some seeds or a tree to be planted within it. Give yourself back to nature and make a positive impact on the world long after you are gone.

Find the perfect venue

When planning your funeral it is important for you to find the perfect venue to say goodbye. If you are religious then a church might be a good option, but if not you can still celebrate your goodbye in a large home or event hall. It might even be worth visiting the venue in person to see what works for you and where you feel will represent you in the right way to your visitors. There are so many amazing venues that are respectful when hosting funerals, and you’ll have plenty of places to choose from to make your day the most special it can be.

Choose your flowers

Choosing the flowers for your send off is something which can bring a little element of fun to the proceedings. Flowers represent color and life, and they are a brilliant way to add some decoration to your ceremony. You can either choose your favorite flowers in bright colors or perhaps try something more traditional such as tulips which are often given to signify a passing. There are many beautiful choices and you can be as simple or elaborate as you want.

Make it fun

Who says a funeral has to be all doom at gloom? If you are planning your own funeral – you might decide that you would rather your loved ones were happy on the day and instead of crying, are happy to celebrate who you were. Planning a fun funeral can include things such as a video compilation of your best moments, it could include a colorful dress code, or perhaps some funny jokes during the eulogy. Make sure that your funeral truly represents who you were as a person and allows people to feel like you right there with them on the day.

Make a playlist

Choosing music for your funeral can be a fun part of the process, because largely this will involve you choosing a playlist full of your favorite songs. They don’t have to be all doom and gloom – the songs you choose can simply be songs you loved during your life and this will bring people closer to you as they say goodbye.

Pick a plot

When planning for your funeral it is important to decide just where you will rest. You might choose to buy a family plot in a local cemetery or perhaps you want to choose a spot with a lovely view of your favorite place. Choosing the place you will rest is important and can be an emotional decision to make – however it is also one which will live on as people visit you in the years to come.

Choose a headstone

Choosing a headstone or decoration for your grave is the last piece of the puzzle when planning a funeral but one of the most crucial – you can choose from grand headstones to flat grave headstones or even simple urns that family can place flowers in when they visit. There are so many options to choose from that this decision might take the longest!

Planning a funeral shouldn’t be sad – it is simply a way to ensure your send off is how you want it to be, and that your family are saved the stress of doing it once you are gone.
