It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

How To Hone Your Creative Talents & Make More Of Them

lifestyle Article

If you’re someone who has always enjoyed being creative but has let their creative skills fall on the backburner for the past few years, you might be thinking about how you can revive your creative talents. Perhaps this year you have decided to aim to implement a range of positive changes in your life, and one of those changes is to breathe new life into your old passions, such as creativity.

Finding your way back to being in love with creativity is not always an easy path to go down; there’s a lot that you need to take into account. However, if you are someone who always used to love being creative and found solace in their creativity, then you may find that getting back to your creative roots helps you to not only relight your passion for being creative, but also helps to aid your wellbeing and mental health.

Bearing that in mind, if you have decided that the time has come to rebuild your passion and find your way back to spending time being creative, below is a guide to a few useful tips and ideas. Have a read, take note, and consider implementing these in your return to creativity.

Gain inspiration

The first step to regaining a love for something is getting inspired. If you want to find that fire in your soul that drives you to want to be creative, then you need to take the time to source your inspiration. For some people, inspiration comes from resources like Instagram and Pinterest, where you can see images of other people’s work and ideas. For others, inspiration comes from other successful creative individuals, such as artist and painter Monika Heckenbach, for instance.

If you are going to find your passion for being creative, you need to take the time to determine what inspires you. Does going to see an art or sculpture exhibition give you the inspiration that you need? Or, do you find that attending a creative class gives you back your interest in being creative? You need to think about what sparks your passion and use that to help push yourself back into enjoying your creative hobbies.

Relearn your skill

If it’s been a while since you painted, drew, sculpted, crocheted or did whatever your go-to creative skill is, then you might need to take some time to relearn the skill. The chances are that you have retained the basics, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take the time to relearn how to draw, paint or do whatever hobby it is that you enjoy.

The great thing about the internet is the fact that it’s made learning new skills – or polishing old ones – far simpler and easier. There are a wide range of online tutorials for different skills, many of which are run on YouTube and are free to use. Of course, there are also paid online workshops that you can take part in, but there are also plenty of free resources available to you.

Make it more than a hobby

If you find that you are loving being more creative again, then perhaps you might want to consider making what you do more than just a hobby. If you find that you really love being creative, think about taking steps to make it more than just a hobby, think about how you could turn it into a career, or even just a side hustle to start out with. It will take time to get things off of the ground, but once you start it will soon snowball and you will quickly see results. You never know, your little creative side hustle might even end up being a huge success.

For anyone creative, the best tools for turning a hobby into a business are sites like Etsy, that allow anyone to set up a page and start selling. You can also create your own website via WordPress using a Shopify plugin, however Etsy is a more budget-friendly option. If you’re keen to make your hobby more than that, but don’t know where to start, consider speaking to a business advisor. You could also opt to utilise free online business advice designed to help make launching a small creative business a little easier and less stressful.

There you have it, a few useful tips and ideas for how you can hone your creative talents and make more of them in 2021. Hopefully, the above tips and ideas will help you to get started with learning to love being creative again.
