When it comes to starting a vegan lifestyle and making changes to the kinds of products that you consume, it’s easy to assume that those are the only changes that you need to make. However, being vegan isn’t just about what you eat, it’s actually about far more than that.

Leading a vegan lifestyle is about a lot more than just avoiding certain foods – admittedly, your vegan diet will make up a lot of your changes in terms of leading a vegan life, but it’s not the only key aspect of transitioning to a vegan lifestyle.

Of course, when you become vegan the sheer amount that you need to think about can be somewhat overwhelming. That’s why many new vegans choose to stagger things, starting with their diet and then moving onto other areas of veganism over time as their confidence grows.

Wondering areas you need to think about besides purely diet? Below is a guide to some of the areas that you need to think about what it comes to starting a vegan lifestyle.

Buy vegan-friendly clothing

When it comes to your clothing, it’s important to realise that not all clothing is born equal and that a lot of clothing seen on the high street is not, necessarily ethically sourced or created, meaning that it goes against the vegan concept. However, there are vegan clothing brands that you can opt to buy from instead of buying from non-vegan, non-ethical clothing brands. If you want to ensure that you’re doing everything you can to lead a more ethical life, then you need to make sure that you’re taking your clothing into account.

Swap out your beauty products for vegan alternatives

Believe it or not, a lot of beauty products are not, in fact, vegan. From skincare essentials like cleanser, toner and moisturiser to makeup must-haves like foundation, lipstick, and eyeshadow, a lot of beauty products are not vegan, either because they’re tested on animals or because they include animal-derived products. The good news is that you can shop vegan skincare products, makeup products, and various other beauty products online, it’s just a case of making sure to check that a brand or product is vegan before you buy it.

Be mindful of footwear

A lot of footwear isn’t vegan, due to how or what it is manufactured using. Take leather shoes, for instance, these aren’t vegan because they’re made using leather, a material derived from cows. Lots of footwear brands are vegan, it’s just a case of taking the time to check that this is the case. You will find that due to the rise in veganism, that there’s been a rise in the number of brands selling faux leather vegan shoes, giving you plenty of choices to choose from.

Starting a vegan lifestyle is about far more than just diet. Yes, your diet is important and a key aspect of leading a vegan lifestyle but it is not all that it takes to lead a vegan lifestyle, and it’s important to understand that.
